Welcome to BamaPlates.com!
This site is intended to
provide a comprehensive online resource for collectors of Alabama license
plates, from the earliest known pre-state plates to the most recent graphics.
If you've ever wondered what the letter "K" on your 1936 plate means or what
kind of plate was on that car that passed you in traffic today, you've landed
at the right place! Here you will find such information as what
colors the plates were painted, what the various prefix codes mean, which years they were issued in pairs and much more.
On the "Photo Gallery" page you will find
photographs of nearly every Alabama plate that has been issued over the years,
grouped by plate type. There are photographs of everything from the
regular issue passenger plates to the sample plates (usually with all zeros)
which were given out to other states for identification purposes. You will
probably notice that there are a number of pictures missing because there are
some plates I've either never found or never had an opportunity to photograph.
Either way, if you own an Alabama plate that isn't pictured here, I'd love to
hear about it. I've spent many hours accumulating photos for this project
but there are still a few Alabama collectors that I haven't yet had an
opportunity to visit, so be sure to check back from time to time. New
photos will be posted just as quickly as I can get them!
I'm always looking for photographs of
interesting and unusual Alabama plates. If you have anything you think
might be of interest or if you have Alabama license plates that you'd like to
sell, please let me know.
This website has been a long time in the
making so I hope you enjoy it. If you want, please take a minute and drop
me an email to let me know what you think!
